Polar Bear Day

27th February 2024
We celebrated International Polar Bear Day as a STEM (STEAM) day in school on Tuesday.  In maths the children measured the size of a real polar bear and then measured themselves and everyone else to compare heights.  Older children used the GPS tracking of our sponsored Polar Bear (Blizberg) to track and measure his route around Northern Canada - thinking about scale, direction and accuracy.

In English the children wrote scripts for an information film about polar bears - we enjoyed filming their efforts very much and the end result can be seen by clicking on this link.

In the afternoon, the children thought about habitats, food chains and environmental pressures on polar bears as well as creating beautiful mixed media polar bear collages.  We also found time for some polar bear stories.
