Artist workshop in school

17th January 2019
We welcomed Louise Underwood, a textile artist, into school as part of our Dippy Schools project with the Great North Museum:  Hancock.  We are creating a banner to hang in the museum to celebrate their upcoming exhibition.

‘Dippy’ – a Diplodocus skeleton cast – has thrilled visitors to London’s Natural History Museum for over 100 years. Now, for the first time, he will go on display outside the capital, touring eight venues around England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  The Great North Museum: Hancock has been selected as the sole North East England venue on the tour.  We are one of 10 schools chosen to work with Louise to create artwork for the exhibition.

Louise came into school on Monday to talk to the children about the environmental theme of the exhibition and to give them time to come up with their own ideas for the design of the banner.  She then collated these ideas into a beautiful design.  On Thursday the children took it in turns to work on turning her design into reality.  We are very proud of our banner and look forward to seeing it hanging in the museum.
