Learning outside the classroom

We recognise that learning outside of the classroom is incredibly valuable and essential for children’s well being – both physical and mental health, for nurturing curiosity, encouraging investigation and exploration and promoting a love for the natural world and care for the environment.

It is our aim as a school to promote effective outdoor learning, where and when we can, in order to ensure children have the best possible learning environment and experiences.  This can take the form of visits to special places, using our grounds well at both Lowick and on Holy Island, working with partners such as the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve or being present in our environment.

Two of our staff are forest school and beach school trained to facilitate effective outdoor learning.  All of our staff are committed to provided the best, creative and engaging lessons we can taking full advantage of our amazing local area as well as trips further afield.

See our photo album below for examples of where we have done learning outside the classroom.
