Celebrating the Caribbean day

31st March 2025
To link with our learning theme about Coasts and Islands the children have been learning about the Caribbean.  They have been reading books linked to the Caribbean in English, including 'Gregory Cool' as well a learning more about the geography of the area.

This day was a chance to explore the creative side of Caribbean culture - food, music, stories, dance and art.  Inspired by Brianna Mccarthy's portraits the children experimented with colour, shape and pattern in their own portraits.  We made delicious fruit salads with exotic fruits - some of which the children hadn't seen before - with a coconut and lime dressing.  The children played the steel pans and practised for a performance planned for the end of term.  They also learned about the roots of the Notting Hill Carnival and made their own headdresses and made up their own dances to go with a range of music.  All in all it has been a colourful, exciting and interesting day!
