Music workshop and performance

30th September 2022
Wow what an amazing day we have had today!   We were so excited to welcome Paul and his colleagues from the Ushaw Ensemble into our school on Holy Island to work with our children on a piece of music inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels.  The children really enjoyed learning about the different aspects of music and creating a piece which they then (very bravely) performed at St Mary's church in front of children from several other schools.

They also fitted in a visit to the Heritage Centre and found out more about the Lindisfarne Gospels and the exciting history of Holy Island, including the Viking raids.

In the afternoon, we were treated to a special performance in St Mary's church by the Ushaw Ensemble of their St Cuthbert's Suite, inspired by the life of St Cuthbert.  We got to see them play the violin, keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, flute, drums, double bass and Northumbrian pipes.  It was lovely to share this experience with other schools from the Berwick Partnership and it was a chance to see professional musicians play with such skill and feeling - such a brilliant experience for all of us.

Scroll down for the video of the children performing their piece and also for lots of photos of the day!
